HOW TO BECOME A PATIENT IN THE STUDENT CLINIC
Patients interested in being considered for treatment
in the student clinics should call 702-774-2400 for information on how
to get an appointment. Prior to acceptance we require prospective patients
to proceed through a "screening appointment." This is a brief
examination to determine if the patient’s needs are compatible with
the educational needs of our student doctors. Many factors influence acceptance
as a patient into our educational program, including but not limited to:
- suitability
for the teaching program;
- the patient’s health; the complexity
of the existing dental needs;
- time availability for appointments.
If not accepted
for care at the school, there will be no charge for the screening
appointment.
Patients who are acceptable may be assigned to a student
doctor immediately or placed in the patient pool for admissions into the
treatment program at a later date. When a patient becomes available and
matches the student’s
needs, the patient is assigned to a student for comprehensive
dental care. A comprehensive oral examination will be scheduled, and at
this time there will be a charge for the x-rays and the examination. All
patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent
or legal guardian.
The UNLV School of Dental Medicine does not discriminate
on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, disability,
or veteran status in provision of education or employment opportunities.
This policy extends to patient acceptance and patient assignment to student
doctors.
A request for a student doctor based upon race, color, national origin,
sex, religion, age, or handicap will not be honored and such a request
will indicate you will be better served by a private dentist.
